The article examines the European integration dimension of legal regulation of Ukraine’s cooperation with the European Union in the field of security. The subject of the study is a set of constitutional, legal, international legal and practical aspects of Ukraine’s integration into the European security system, and the aim is to determine the impact of legal mechanisms of European integration cooperation on enhancing the state's defence capabilities and strengthening Ukraine’s international legitimacy. The methodological basis consists of an analysis of normative legal acts, a comparative legal approach, a systematic method, and the study of practical cases of cooperation.
The relevance of the work is due to the intensification of global and regional threats to Ukraine’s national security as a result of the Russian Federation’s armed aggression in 2014 and 2022, which requires improving the legal basis for cooperation with the European Union and integration into European security mechanisms. The scientific novelty lies in a comprehensive understanding of the interconnection between constitutional and legal foundations, international legal norms and practical instruments of cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union (in particular, the Joint Security Commitments between Ukraine and the EU 2024, the European Peace Fund, the EU Military Assistance Mission to Ukraine (EUMAM), the EU Advisory Mission in Ukraine, and EU sanctions mechanisms) and determining their impact on the harmonisation of national security policy with European standards.
The study found that the legal and institutional boundaries of Ukraine’s cooperation with the European Union ensure the coordinated implementation of the European integration course, increase the institutional compatibility of the security and defence sector, facilitate coordination with international partners and strengthen the state’s ability to counter modern external threats. The practical significance of the work lies in the possibility of using the findings to improve legislation and mechanisms of interaction in the field of security, increase the effectiveness of Ukraine’s integration into the European collective security system, and strengthen its international legitimacy.
The results obtained can be applied in legislative, analytical and educational activities aimed at modernising the security and defence sector, training personnel and coordinating state policy in the field of European integration cooperation. The content of the results shows that the legal regulation of Ukraine’s cooperation with the EU in the field of security forms the normative basis for strengthening national security and integrating the state into the European security space.
